Volunteering to bring festive cheer
15 December 2022
Colleagues have been volunteering at a homeless charity helping it prepare for Christmas and bring some festive cheer to local families facing disadvantage.
The Cardinal Hume Centre is a charity close to our HQ in London that works with homeless young people, families living in poverty and vulnerable individuals.
At this time of year it can be a lonely and stressful time for people so the Centre organises activities, presents and Christmas food parcels.
Landbay colleagues spent time at the Centre helping to decorate the family services space where local children take part in afterschool and homework clubs and holiday activities.
They worked with the children on creating a Christmas display board, making decorations such as 3-D Christmas stars and candle holders, and baking cookies.
Ellie Wilson of Landbay commented: “We support the Cardinal Hume Centre throughout the year but Christmas is a time when we can come together and try to make life a little cheerier for people in hardship.”
Alice Jamieson, one of the volunteers on the day, said: “It was lovely to work with the children and see smiles on their faces making the Christmas decorations and baking cookies. We wanted to make the family service area look and feel Christmassy so everyone can enjoy the festive celebrations.
Thank you to the wonderful people who work at the Cardinal Hume Centre for keeping us entertained with festive music and mince pies to sustain our Christmas spirit.”
“We love welcoming Landbay volunteers at the Centre, they always bring lots of enthusiasm and energy and interact brilliantly with the children. We wanted to run festive crafts and Christmas decorating workshops and were delighted when Landbay said they could help. Landbay staff helped the children to create Christmas candle holders and 3D baubles, bake Christmas cookies and assemble and decorate the Christmas tree. The children had a wonderful time and now our family centre is now looking super festive for our Christmas parties next week!”
